BeTh isBell / BeThisBell Music Discography

My main music website is http://bethisbell.com/   There's a music player and additional downloadable musical bio information available at that website.

After transitioning genders and finding it difficult to find employment in Oklahoma/Texas as a transgender lawyer (and after being told a few too many times by prospective employer southwestern law firms that juries and clients would not like or accept a transgender attorney, lol), I decided to go to music college and began attending the Academy of Contemporary Music at University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) in 2011 and graduated May 2013 with a bachelor's degree.

As a musician and a radio DJ, I currently perform under the stage name Beth Bell. This is the name I use to book most of my local Humboldt County, CA, music gigs. When I perform full band or we go on tour, the name of the band is BeThisBell (which is a play on my actual name Beth Isbell, sometime spelled BeTh isBell).

The first band I was ever in was The Flying Lennys, a local neighborhood band in Dallas, TX. This 5 song EP is what's left of those recordings from 2005. Brigitte Miller singing on track #4 Naked, a song we co-wrote. Plus a rocking bonus cut (#6 Camille) at the end from my next band Popesoldier. ‪#‎TheFlyingLennysEP

My first full-length album "The Good Woman Waltz" (2005) originally went out under my boy name Bill Isbell. It was inspired by all my visits to Kerrville, Pickin' in the Pines, & all the great campfire circles with my songwriter friends. It's country music, well, Texicana, red dirt, and Nashville, it's all that. The production on this album got it some radio play & a #1 country title cut (Texas Original Songwriter Chart, Summer 2008). ‪#‎TheGoodWomanWaltz ‪#‎Americana https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8jFSS7WH9E

After Popesoldier split up in about 2004, my next rock band was The Dead Prophets (Dallas, TX) with Big Mike Clark on lead guitar and Carol Morgan on drums. This was in 2004-2006, and reformed again 2009-2010. This album is The Best of The Dead Prophets, released in 2010, & features tracks from both periods of this cult band's existence. Big Mike is amazing on guitar - think Dick Dale meets David Gilmore, so definitely worth an afternoon or evening listen ‪#‎TheBestOfTheDeadProphets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vk6MMoKO3k

During the hiatus period of The Dead Prophets, I recorded and released several solo acoustic EPs. This double EP combines two of those releases Live at Blue Moon (2007) & The Awakening (2008). ‪#‎BlueMoon ‪#‎Acoustic ‪#‎TheAwakening ‪#‎Rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY3pkpnhidE

In 2009, I released The Aardvark EP. As I recall it even came with a link to it's own sesame street style video of a song about aardvarks, lol. Another solo EP, but this time electric. The first two songs of this EP became the start of what eventually became the We Are The Gods! album, but here in their early infant forms, lol. This EP is a weird little indie rock animal, much like it's namesake ‪#‎TheAardvark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By5SRuRSuL8

In 2010, I auditioned for Berklee College of Music in Boston and was even admitted, but with no scholarship, I couldn't afford to attend. So, in 2011, I enrolled into the Academy of Contemporary Music at Univ. of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO), a school founded by The Flaming Lips. This two song Blues EP with me singing and playing lead live against a pre-recorded studio band was essentially my audition tape. It worked. I still love the blues. Eventually I will put out a blues album. ‪#‎ThisIsTheBlues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vMXidxD5-0

I graduated music college in 2013 with a bachelor's degree and immediately began working on my first full band studio album We Are The Gods! which came out prematurely at the end of 2013, and was officially released in September 2014, you'll find both on iTunes, lol. With Chainsaw Kittens guitarist Trent Bell producing, the album found an east coast niche, & resulted in a performance at CMJ NYC in Oct. 2015. Some really nice drumming by Nicholas Ley (currently of The Flaming Lips) on this album. Definitely worth a listen. ‪#‎WeAreTheGods https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWiP2XVSCew

In April 2015, the follow up to WATG! was released the Work It Out EP. Same players, same producer, same mastering. We finally got around to finishing some of the songs and alternative versions we had started during the WATG! sessions. I'm playing most of the lead guitars on this EP. Some cool alt versions. ‪#‎WorkItOut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=103HireC2dc

In December 2015, I released a 4 song mostly full band electric EP featuring new original songs written and recorded since moving to Humboldt County, along the gorgeous north coast of California. This EP is called "2015." Like a sonic postcard. #2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV_O7y879Ks

In early February 2016, Jory Edwards and I played a live duo set at Blondies, which we have released as the "Boxes † Live" EP. We were going to be called the Voxes, but found out the name was taken. And… the fans kept mispronouncing it anyway and calling us Boxes, so ergo this nice little live original acoustic indie rock EP. Featuring some of my first songs experimenting around in open tunings. ‪#‎BoxesLive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw0Xcia1ykc

The Shine On! EP, released in late February 2016, is essentially a compilation EP featuring the opening or closing tracks from WATG!, Work It Out, and the 2015 EP. I was trying to create something uplifting and without all the cuss words to showcase my work. The EP turns out to be a really nice listen and introduction. ‪#‎ShineOn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-R29v4YwS4
